Ottawa Recreation Commission
Recreation commissions were created by Kansas state statute. Ottawa Recreation Commission (ORC) was established in 1947. We are funded through property taxes levied by USD290, and specifically dedicated by law for the recreation commission. ORC provides essential quality of life services in the form of recreation programs for this community. We partner with the City of Ottawa and USD290 to operate our programs using properties they own.
The Commission is governed by a five member policy setting board. Our board is comprised of two appointees from the City, two from USD290 and one at-large position appointed by the four previously appointed members. Commissioners are not paid by law, and donate their time.
ORC holds regular meetings at the Ottawa Community Recreation Center: Goppert Building at 705 W. 15th St. They are held the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the multi-purpose room. They are open to the public. To be placed on the agenda, please call (785) 242-1939 the Friday before the next scheduled meeting.
